I have been using the Hangouts app for many years. Now I am receiving a message that they are going to make it go away, by replacing it with the Hangouts Chrome Extension. I have installed the extension and it does not work, at all. I can put in a number, the dialogue box says it's calling but nothing whatsoever happens after that.
