Apple released the first version of the Apple Emoji font alongside iPhone OS 2.2 in November 2008. It contained 471 individual emoji glyphs. A lot has happened to the world of Apple emojis since then. Apple's 2008 emoji implementation was based on the set used by Japanese carrier Softbank, and the influence on many of these designs is clear.
